The Results of the San Mateo County STEP Operation
In Colma and Daly City


Burlingame, CA – On Wednesday, November 15th, 2017, approximately twenty traffic officers from various law enforcement agencies throughout San Mateo County participated in the Saturation Traffic Enforcement Program (S.T.E.P.). This was the eleventh deployment in 2017 of a collaborative effort to increase traffic safety and awareness in known trouble spots throughout San Mateo County. The effort focused in the City of Colma and the City of Daly City.

Officers made in excess of 141 traffic stops and issued 100 citations. Of the 100 citations issued,

▪ 43 citations were issued for cell phone violations
▪ 10 citations were issued for red light violations
▪ 36 citations were issued for unsafe speed
▪ 11 citations were issued for failing to obey a traffic sign
▪ 9 citations were issued for stop sign violations
▪ 5 citations were issued for seatbelt violations
▪ 5 citations were issued for various other violations

Additionally, 3 drivers were cited for driving with suspended driver’s licenses.

The participating officers remained committed to making a high volume of traffic stops in this coordinated saturation, while maintaining the highest levels of community awareness and professionalism. The number of stops and citations during this most recent deployment reflect a sustained enthusiasm for this program and traffic safety on the Peninsula.

This was the eleventh deployment in a number of planned multi-agency saturation deployments scheduled to be performed throughout San Mateo County in 2017. The San Mateo County Police Chiefs and Sheriff Association have all committed to this important safety initiative.
